Progress Is Not Linear, Apparently

Patches says he is turning his life around. Meffff would like his watch back.

Patches the Raccoon uses a recovery phrase to explain why he has Meffff’s watch.

Meffff looks at Patches the Raccoon, who appears to be carrying the contents of several missing-property boxes.

“Patches, are you really trying to turn your life around?”

“Absolutely.”

Meffff narrows his eyes. “Then why are you wearing my watch?”

Patches barely hesitates.

“Because progress isn’t linear.”

Behind the Disaster

Recovery and behaviour change rarely happen in a perfectly straight line. Setbacks can occur and should be met with curiosity, support and accountability.

But “progress isn’t linear” is not a free pass to keep hurting people. Repairing trust includes taking responsibility, making amends and, preferably, returning the watch.
